"...ways that the United States can work with allies"
General McMaster, who do Trump and those who dominate his party consider their allies?
I believe, given what I know about you, that you are more than intelligent, educated, and rational enough to know the correct answer to this, but I think it is important that I nonetheless state it clearly. Trump, and those who control his party, want to be authoritarians. Therefore, other authoritarians, like Putin and Kim, they naturally consider their allies. And, like all authoritarians, or aspiring authoritarians, they consider democracies to be the enemy. Democracies will naturally try to help others to be free, and they will set an example of how well and wealthy people can live under a democracy, and this example is dangerous for an authoritarian for his people to see.
So, you can feign ignorance, and act as though Trump and today's Republican party consider democracies to be their allies and all dictatorships to be their adversaries, but I ask you to ask yourself, is this the best strategy to fulfill your pledge of defending the Constitution against all enemies foreign and domestic.
Harold Macmillan supposedly once said “History teaches us nothing save this: never invade Afghanistan”. He may have had a point.
Looking forward to this General! Big fan of your other podcasts and books!
